The African Women’s Cup of Nations, initially scheduled for March 17 to April 3 in Morocco, has been postponed until next summer (July 25-August 16), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Thursday.
“Following discussions between CAF, its partners, Fifa and other stakeholders, CAF has decided to postpone the 2026 women’s CAN from July 25 to August 16, 2026 in order to guarantee the success of this important women’s competition, taking into account certain unforeseen circumstances,” the body indicated without further details.
The competition, organized every two years, will welcome 16 teams divided into four groups. In 2024, the tournament had already taken place in Morocco, as in 2022, and Nigeria, holder of the record for victories (10), had been crowned African champion by beating Morocco in the final (3-2).
