Accenture acquires Ookla, Speedtest and Downdetector

Ziff Davis has announced the sale of its Connectivity division to Accenture for $1.2 billion in cash. The agreement marks the transfer of ownership of platforms that have become de facto standards for network monitoring, including Speedtest, Downdetector, RootMetrics and Ekahau. From a financial perspective, the operation highlights an exponential revaluation of digital assets: Ookla, acquired in 2014 for around 15 million dollars, is today the pillar of a division that in 2025 generated revenues of 231 million dollars, accounting for 16% of Ziff Davis’ overall turnover.

The integration of these skills within Accenture’s offering responds to companies’ growing need for access to timely data for planning complex networks. Through control of Speedtest and RootMetrics, Accenture gains the ability to monitor the performance of mobile and fixed networks on a global scale, transforming consumer measurement tools into strategic assets for advanced IT consultancy. Founded in 2006, Ookla now has approximately 430 employees and has progressively expanded its reach to include granular mobile performance analytics, something Accenture intends to leverage to “enhance its capabilities in the field of services related to network intelligence“.

Despite the change of management, operational continuity for the end user seems to be guaranteed. Based on the first official notesOokla will continue to operate exactly as it currently does“, preserving the functional independence of Speedtest. Likewise, no structural changes are foreseen for Downdetectorthe reference platform for reporting electronic malfunctions. The operation therefore reflects a Accenture’s strategy to internalize high-quality proprietary data, cementing its position as a leader in global digital performance analytics.
