PSG-Monaco (1-3): “We are clearly in difficulty”, recognizes Luis Enrique

The disappointments follow one another at a frantic pace for the Parisians, alongside their crampons. Worrying as the European champions host Chelsea on Wednesday in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League. After this defeat, Luis Enrique was at a press conference at the Parc des Princes.

How do you explain this heavy defeat?

LUIS HENRY. We were very inaccurate in several parts of the match. We saw some unusual errors. When we do that against a team with excellent momentum, we pay for it. We gave a gift to start. And a lot of inaccuracies.

Did you see anything this week in training that suggested such an outcome? ?

No. This is the principle of training and competition. I don’t want to lose confidence in this team right now. We showed this mentality of continuing until the end. It’s not the best result but we like difficulties.

Are the difficulties primarily mental? ?

Clearly. It’s my head that’s wrong at the moment. I’ve lost a lot of matches in my career, it’s a weird feeling, which never pleases. There is not one key to defeat. It’s multifactorial. Trust cannot be bought at Monoprix. We are clearly in difficulty. We must have hope of changing that.

Don’t lose confidence, you say. Does this mean that you are not worried before C1 ?

What I said is what I said. Nothing more.

Against Chelsea, how can we reverse the situation?

It’s time to talk about Monaco. There are no conclusions for the Champions League. We will talk about it the day before and the day of the match.

Does the absence of Ousmane Dembélé in recent times explain the difficulties?

No. I have nothing to say on this subject.

Is your team capable of switching to the Champions League?

It was a weird match. We have to accept our mistakes, from different players. This is a difficult time to change. I’ve been in this situation many times in my career. It’s up to us to correct this. I want to be optimistic with my players to regain our level.

How to rework defensively ?

The first goal is a gift, unusual in professional football. We are one of the best defensive teams in the championship and the Champions League. It’s not a habit to concede goals. I seek to counterbalance the pessimistic moment. We can change the situation and that is what we will seek to do in the immediate future.
