Revolutionary Guard announces more regional attacks amid Iranian president’s de-escalation promises

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has announced dawn attacks against positions of Kurdish armed opposition groups in the Kurdistan region of Iraq amid promises by Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian, who has assured that bombings against neighboring countries have been suspended unless counterattacks are necessary.

The Guard has announced that these attacks occurred around 04:30 in the morning and were directed against three positions of “separatist groups in the Iraqi region.”

These groups are sheltered in Iraq and for a few days the US media has been speculating with the possibility that they could launch an offensive in western Iran, in the predominantly Kurdish region known as the Rojhelat, to further destabilize the Iranian authorities in the midst of the offensive launched by the US and Israel a week ago.

In his statement, collected by the semi-official ISNA agency, an Iranian military spokesperson warns that “if the separatist groups in the region make any movement against the territorial integrity of Iran they will be crushed.”

In addition, the Ministry of Defense of Qatar announced at 09:00, peninsular and Balearic time, the interception of a missile, without giving more details about it.

These announcements occur after Pezeshkian reported the decision to suspend attacks in the region, taken yesterday by the acting Government, and presented his apologies for a strategy that he has attributed to a military measure of force majeure in the face of the death of the security leadership in the attacks by the US and Israel.

Waiting to see how this announcement is consolidated in the coming hours, another incident worth highlighting is the closure this Saturday for half an hour of the Dubai International Airport for security reasons, despite the fact that the Emirati authorities had shortly before denied information about the alleged impact of an Iranian drone in its vicinity.

“For the safety of passengers, airport staff and crew, operations at Dubai International Airport have been temporarily suspended. All procedures are managed in accordance with established safety protocols,” as authorities initially announced on social media. The airport, shortly after, confirmed a “partial resumption” of operations, also through social networks.

It so happens that minutes before the first announcement, the state airline Emirates had announced the resumption of its flights starting this afternoon, including those from Dubai airport. With the provisional closure of the airport, this announcement is pending evolution.
