Opposition is raising the alarm about this unwanted guest: “The coming months are crucial to limit the spread as much as possible”

The issue was raised by opposition councilor Inge Noyez (Vlaams Belang). “The Asian hornet is a growing problem for our biodiversity, our beekeepers and also for the safety of our residents. The coming months are crucial to limit the spread as much as possible.”

Noyez asked the municipal council for an update on last year’s reports and inquired about possible collaboration with a local beekeeper or expert.

Information moments

Alderman Carine Geldhof (Oostrozebeke.nu) indicated that 43 reports were received last year, although there were also double reports. “Some nests were already controlled, but others were not accessible and therefore could not be controlled,” says Geldhof.

According to the aldermen, there is already partial cooperation, as suggested by the opposition. “Various information sessions are being organized by the province. A local beekeeper also indicated that he wanted to share information with interested parties. This was advertised this winter via our social media,” she concluded.
