The detonation occurred around 1 a.m. (local time), said the police department, which also indicated that it still did not have conclusive information about the origin of the explosion.

The police chief indicated that the damage reported was minor. “There is minor damage”he stated.

However, he avoided giving details about what happened. “We are not going to comment on anything related to the type of damage, what exploded and similar details, beyond the fact that there was an explosion,” he said, noting that “the investigation is in a very early phase.”

Later, in statements to the TV2 channel, the same officer indicated that the police “have an idea of ​​the cause” and added: “It seems to us that this is an act perpetrated by someone.”

In their initial statement, the police added that the security forces in the Norwegian capital are in contact with the US diplomatic mission and that they deployed a broad operation in the area.

The incident occurs in a context of maximum alert for the United States embassies in the Middle East, after the joint military operations of Washington and Israel against Iran that unleashed a regional war.

In the last few hours, Tehran launched retaliation against multiple industrial and diplomatic targets in the region.

However, the Norwegian police clarified that at the moment there are no indications that the explosion in front of the embassy in Oslo is related to that conflict.
