“These assassins are using our music”: Franz Ferdinand furious that Israel hijacked one of their songs in a propaganda video

Alex Kapranos, lead singer of the Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand, was outraged on his Instagram account to see the Israeli armed forces using the band’s hit “Take Me Out” in a new propaganda video.

In it, we see images of Israeli fighter planes accompanied by explosions on the ground, as well as an Israeli soldier touting the recent deadly IDF bombings in Iran, all set to the group’s famous hit released in 2004. The Israeli army titled the publication “Operation Roaring Lion – that’s how we do it.” »

“These warmongering assassins are using our music without our consent. This repulses us and makes us angry. That’s pretty typical, right? Strutting around and appropriating what doesn’t belong to them with abject arrogance,” tackled the leader of the group.

A very tense context

The use of “Take Me Out” occurs in a tense international context. Israel and the United States launched joint airstrikes across Iran on February 28, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and targeting hundreds of military sites.

These strikes provoked retaliation, and the situation now threatens to escalate into a much larger regional conflict. Israel has dubbed the attacks “Operation Roaring Lion,” a campaign described by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as one aimed at “ending the threat posed by the ayatollahs’ regime in Iran.”
