The RFEF states that “the process of choosing venues for the 2030 World Cup is open”

The director of International Relations of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Eduard Dervishaj, who is in charge of the team that coordinates with FIFA the visits to the Spanish venues, expressed that “the process of choosing venues for the 2030 World Cup”, which Spain will organize together with Morocco and Portugal, “is open.”

“We are developing technical visits together with FIFA, they have spoken with the public authorities and the stadiums to see where we are at the moment and to plan the process of selecting the venues that we have presented,” Dervishaj advanced in a statement shared by the RFEF, during FIFA’s visits to the venues of the 2030 World Cup bid.

And the director of International Relations of the RFEF defended that this venue selection process “is an open process.” “No one guarantees us that we can add more venues, but we are working to make it that way. And we also think that in Spain we still have venues that are outside the candidacy that have the possibility of being venues in the future,” he explained.

Given the possibility that more cities will join the final catalog of venues for the 2030 World Cup, Dervishaj acknowledged that they would “like to visit all possible venues in Spain”, but the procedure established by FIFA requires them to first visit “only the venues that are in the candidacy.” “This does not mean that everything is closed. But first we must comply with what we have presented. And, over time, we will try to have more headquarters,” he added.

In the line expressed by the president of the RFEF, Rafael Louzán, Dervishaj stated that the entity is “the first interested in having more headquarters in Spain.” “In addition, we think that there are cities, venues and stadiums that can meet FIFA’s requirements, after the work that is yet to be done,” he commented.

“There is no date for the closing of the venue election procedure, but we are going to try to ensure that all the venues presented comply and that they can include more venues in Spain. From the RFEF we assume the leadership of the organization of the 2030 World Cup,” concluded Dervishaj.
