PFAS: five Kiabi garments recalled for chemical risk

The government site Rappel conso launched a national recall campaign on Tuesday for five items of clothing from the Kiabi brand, due to the excessive presence of PFAS, or “eternal pollutants”, in their composition.

These clothes, a hooded windbreaker for children as well as two models for adults, a full “pilot” suit for babies and a jacket for men, were marketed by the brand between the months of June and December 2025, according to the government site, which points to a “chemical risk” for consumers. In question, the presence of PFAS “above authorized thresholds”.

Textile manufacturers have massively used PFAS because of their waterproofing, breathable and even flame-retardant properties. But perfluorinated substances do not degrade and because of their highly polluting potential, they have been banned in clothing and shoes since January 1. And all textiles must be supplied without PFAS in 2030.

The northern clothing brand, owned by the Mulliez family association, has not published any information on its website, on X or Instagram. Asked this Thursday by AFP, Kiabi confirms that as part of “regular quality controls”, “levels slightly above the regulatory thresholds in force” were detected in five garments. “The affected stocks present in stores and in our warehouses are being withdrawn and will be destroyed. Anyone who purchased one of the affected items can return it to the store for an immediate refund,” adds Kiabi, specifying that the items have been withdrawn from sale.

Favorite fashion brand of the French, according to a panel of consumers gathered last September, the clothing giant claims 25 million customers through its network of 648 points of sale (stores or online sites) in 37 countries.
