Google launched a new artificial intelligence-powered search feature that showed users health tips collected from ordinary people around the world. The company said the service, called What People Recommend, based on recommendations from strangers, demonstrates the power of AI in improving access to health information. However, according to three sources familiar with the situation, Google later quietly removed the feature, The Guardian writes.

A Google spokesperson confirmed that the What Users Suggest section has been closed. According to him, this decision is related to the broader simplification of the search page and is not related to issues of quality or security of the service. Google has abandoned its AI-powered search feature that showed users health tips collected from laypeople around the world. The decision comes amid growing attention to how the company uses AI to disseminate health information.

These changes come amid increased attention to the role of AI in medical recommendations. An investigation by The Guardian has found that some automatically generated summaries in Google AI reviews may contain inaccurate or misleading health information. These AI resumes are displayed to approximately two billion users per month and appear above organic search results on one of the most visited websites in the world. The company initially tried to downplay the investigation’s findings, saying the reports included references to authoritative sources and recommendations to consult a doctor. However, a few days later, Google did disable part of AI reviews for some medical queries, although the feature was not completely removed.
