DFB rejects objection: Luis Díaz from FC Bayern remains suspended

FC Bayern has failed in its appeal against Luis Díaz’s suspension. The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) rejected the Munich team’s request in the single judge proceedings as “unfounded”. The Colombian attacker remains suspended for the Bundesliga game against Union Berlin on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky).

Díaz was shown a yellow-red card in the 84th minute of the Bundesliga game at Bayer Leverkusen (1-1) on Saturday. Referee Christian Dingert then described his decision as a mistake. “When I see the pictures now, it’s not a penalty. Yellow-red is very hard, I wouldn’t give it like that anymore,” he said.

However, Dingert’s admission was not relevant for the sports court, as presiding judge Stephan Oberholz explained. “What is crucial is that the process presents itself as a factual decision that can only be corrected if it is seriously, obviously and beyond any doubt objectively incorrect. That is not the case here,” he said.

Dingert only noticed the “later hit” on Díaz’s foot after watching the video footage after the game, Oberholz explained. “But even taking this into account, player Díaz would have looked for contact beforehand and found it,” and the referee’s decision was therefore “not completely wrong.”
