UNAM announces the creation of an AI coordinating council

Because more than 65 percent of Mexicans connected to the Internet already integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their daily lives, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) announced the creation of the AI ​​coordinating council, which will function as a strategic body in charge of articulating institutional capabilities to study, analyze and provide knowledge about the complexities derived from the development of this technology.

“It is a transversal strategy for technical strengthening, as well as a guide for the creation of humanistic solutions adapted to the social, linguistic and economic reality of Mexico and Latin America,” says the institution.

The relevance of this organization, he details, is evident in the current panorama of digitalization, since recent international studies by Ipsos and Google reveal that 77 percent of people who use AI is for education and learning purposes, which underlines its direct impact on the generation of knowledge.

Creativity and innovation for teaching

At a global level, the trend is equally forceful: 77 percent of companies implement or explore the use of AI in their operational processes and therefore, the council created at UNAM will promote creativity and innovation in teaching-learning processes and will rely on an interdisciplinary academic committee to stay at the forefront of emerging trends.

Likewise, it details that under a framework of ethical responsibility and social vision, this specialized council will promote academic integrity and intellectual property in the face of the challenges of the digital environment.

In addition, it will encourage the development of digital skills in students and promote links with productive sectors to promote the transfer of knowledge and the employability of graduates, always under criteria of social benefit.
