Microsoft reorganizes its AI sector with a new Copilot boss

The operation redefines the key roles at the top of Microsoft AI. Mustafa Suleyman, who joined the company almost two years ago after the acquisition of the Inflection AI team, will leave direct management of the assistant’s features to focus exclusively on the creation of proprietary language models, optimized for business needs. Copilot’s operational leadership will now pass to Jacob Andreou, a former Snap executive, who will assume global responsibility for product design, engineering and growth, reporting directly to CEO Nadella.

This move marks the overcoming of a model that did not yield the desired results, especially after the recent restyling of the consumer version which was not reflected in its professional counterpart. Creating a single leadership team for Copilot aims to address the lack of clear ownership over the project within the company. However, the fate of historic divisions such as Edge, Bing and MSN remains to be clarified, whose teams could undergo further changes following the new technical role entrusted to Suleyman.

The reshuffle is part of a broader transition period for the Redmond giant, marked by excellent farewells among the ranks of veterans. The reorganization follows the announcement of the retirement of Rajesh Jha, a key figure with a thirty-five year career who supervised Windows and Office, and the exit of Phil Spencer from the gaming sector. As the new fiscal year approaches, Microsoft is likely to continue with further structural adjustments to solidify its position in the integrated AI race.
