Bayern’s second goal celebration against Bergamo

Led by captain Harry Kane, who scored twice, FC Bayern celebrated a second goal celebration against Atalanta Bergamo and can now look forward to the giant duel with Real Madrid. After the 6-1 gala in Italy, the German football record champions also dominated the second leg against the Dortmund conquerors 4-1 (1-0) and made their place in the Champions League quarter-finals quite serious.

The man of the evening was the goalscorer Kane, who was still injured in the first leg. First the Englishman converted a hand penalty in his second attempt (25th minute). Then Kane delighted the 75,000 spectators in the Allianz Arena with a great individual performance, which he crowned with a dream goal (54th).

Agile Karl rewards himself with the 3-0

The hard-working, but long-unlucky youngster Lennart Karl increased immediately afterwards (56th). The 18-year-old can apparently expect his first national team nomination this Thursday. After a wonderful pass from Karl, Luis Díaz also scored (70′). In the 85th minute, Berlin-born Lazar Samardzic headed the score for the guests.

“We want to make a statement again,” sports director Max Eberl announced on the streaming service DAZN before kick-off. Bayern’s performance wasn’t quite as spectacular as a week earlier in Italy. But even the Champions League record winner Real Madrid should be warned about coach Vincent Kompany’s greedy Munich treble hunters. The Bayern fans chanted in the final minutes: “European Cup winners FCB”.

Green light for goalkeeper Urbig

The most important personnel question had been resolved hours before kick-off. Jonas Urbig was given the green light by the doctors to play after the concussion he sustained in the first leg. “I’m happy for Jonas,” said Kompany. He didn’t have to activate the emergency solution with the 16-year-old debutant Leonard Prescott in goal.

Urbig was rarely required, but was there at the crucial moment. Manuel Neuer’s deputy, who was still out after a second torn muscle fiber in his calf, used a strong reflex to prevent Mario Palasic from making it 1-1 for Atalanta (44′). Urbig was powerless to concede the goal.

Kane is allowed to retake the penalty

Kane strode to the penalty spot midway through the first half after video evidence confirmed that Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini had blocked the Englishman’s volley with his arm. Kane’s first attempt was saved by Marco Sportiello. But the goalkeeper left the goal line with both feet too early. On the replay, Kane then sank hard and placed in the bottom right.

In addition to the suspended Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise as well as the injured Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, Kompany took the opportunity after the great first-leg success to also order defenders Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer, who were threatened with a yellow card suspension, onto the bench. The duo will be needed against Real Madrid in three weeks.

In the second leg of the round of 16, players from the second row such as Raphaël Guerreiro and Tom Bischof were also able to recommend themselves. The Munich team took a serious approach and showed themselves hungry for goals again after the break at the latest. Atalanta was once again just a pawn for the Munich offensive aces.
