Cuba gave an AKM rifle to the singer Silvio Rodríguez, ready to fight against the United States

“I demand my AKM, if they launch it. And let it be known that I am very serious,” wrote Rodríguez, 79, on his blog Second quote, referring to the emblematic Soviet assault rifle.

The singer, author of more than 500 songs, highlighted Díaz-Canel’s promise that Cuba would offer “impregnated resistance” to the aggressor. It was because the president of Cuba said that “in the worst scenario, Cuba is accompanied by one certainty: any external aggressor will encounter impregnable resistance.”

The reaction of Díaz-Canel and Silvio Rodríguez occurred days after Donald Trump put more pressure on the island. In fact, on Monday the president of the United States was very harsh in pointing out that he hoped to have “the honor of taking Cuba, in some way.”

Cuba, under a United States embargo since 1962, confirmed a week ago that it is in talks with its powerful neighbor and released political prisoners within the framework of an agreement with the Vatican, a historic mediator between both countries.

However, this Friday the gesture of Silvio Rodríguez, who was a deputy of the National Assembly for fifteen years, corresponded.

The ceremony was headed by the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba and Díaz-Canel was also present. The star guest, however, was Rodríguez, who received as a gift a AKM rifle, a replica and a license for carrying weapons.

The ceremony, according to a statement from the presidency on the social network X, took place within the framework of National Defense Day.

Together with the replica and the ID, the Government of Cuba noted, they gave Silvio Rodríguez a real rifle, “in fulfillment of his noble and revolutionary claim.”

“Sign. Revolutionary Armed Forces,” reads the card they gave the singer. This is a “safe conduct permit to temporarily carry a firearm” in the name of civilian Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez.

It corresponds to an AKM CNC rifle with registration number 432572. AKM is the Russian acronym for the Kalashnikov Modernized Automatic Rifle, a variation of the AK-47. It is Soviet-made and was used in Vietnam, the Gulf and Afghanistan, among other war conflicts.

More than 10 million units were manufactured, it weighs about 3 kilos and has a rate of 600-650 shots per minute. Currently, updated and local versions are used by the Iranian regime.
