Green candidate Krause at the front in the Munich mayoral election

The SPD has provided the mayor of Munich for 42 years. After counting almost two thirds of the electoral districts, 35-year-old Krause is leading in the Bavarian capital with almost 59 percent of the vote, while SPD candidate Reiter (67) has a good 41 percent.

In the first round of voting, Reiter was ahead of Krause (29.5) with 35.6 percent, while CSU candidate Clemens Baumgärtner was eliminated in third place. Alliance 90/The Greens are also the largest faction in the Munich city council.

In Bavaria’s second largest city Nuremberg, CSU mayor Marcus König defended the town hall. After almost all votes were counted, König was ahead of his SPD challenger Nasser Ahmed (44.3) with 55.7 percent.
