Athletico presents ‘reinforcement’ hours before the Atletiba classic

The 2026 version mascot was announced during Rubro-Negro’s 102nd birthday party, celebrated at Arena da Baixada. The club will reach its new age next Thursday (26). The festivities also included a tour of the sports square, children’s programming and live music.

Initially, Fura-cão was part of a wider range of new Athletico mascots, forming part of the so-called “Família Furacão”. However, the other characters ended up renegade and forgotten, while the little dog fell into the fans’ favor.

And the athletic board decided to invest even more in the mascot as an official presence. “Hurricane doesn’t push. It invites. It invites us to dream, to play together, to really support. And now there’s someone running with us. Fura-cão!”, highlighted the club in campaigns on official channels.

Redesigned, the mascot now wears a mask in red and black colors, in addition to the athletes’ game shirt and boots from Umbro, Athletico’s sporting equipment supplier. The club also opened a poll on social media to determine Fura-cão’s shirt number.

There are three options: 49, in reference to the year in which the surname Furacão appeared; 8, number of the idol and top scorer in the club’s history, Barcímio Sicupira; and 18, in reference to the year of the change of visual identity and the first South American title, in 2018.

Reinforced with its new mascot, Furacão is preparing to face rival Coritiba in a classic this Sunday (22), at 4pm, in Baixada, for the 8th round of the Brasileirão.
