Trump suspends attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure

“I am pleased to report that the United States of America and Iran have had, over the past two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

“Based on the tenor and tone of these in-depth, detailed and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have directed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a period of five days, subject to the success of ongoing meetings and discussions,” the American president added. The Iranian regime has not yet commented on the matter.

Over the weekend, Trump had written in Truth Social that the United States would “attack and annihilate” Iranian energy infrastructure if the Tehran regime did not completely reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, a deadline that would end at 8:44 pm Brasília this Monday.

The almost total blockage of the passage, through which around 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) transit, has caused the prices of these commodities to soar in recent weeks and are the major impasse of the moment in the current US and Israeli war against Iran, which on Saturday (21) completed three weeks.
