The bakery suspected of poisoning 19 people took ingredients from many places

The information was reported by the Quang Ngai Department of Health on the afternoon of March 24, after the Food Hygiene and Safety Department of the same locality took epidemiological samples and traced them to investigate a food poisoning case that caused 19 people, including many children, to be hospitalized after eating bread from a cart on Van Tien Dung Street, Tinh Khe Commune, near the Regional General Clinic and Son My Evidence Area.

Epidemiological declaration shows that, between 7:00 a.m. on March 21 and 8:00 a.m. on March 22, the patients bought cakes at the store owned by Ms. Ai. At about 3:00 p.m. the same day, the first case showed symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and fever; Other cases later had similar symptoms and were taken to the emergency room. As of 10:00 a.m. on March 24, a total of 19 people came for examination and treatment. The patients are currently in stable health after receiving active treatment.

Working with the inspection team, Ms. Ai said that every day she sells a case of bread from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with a variety of fillings such as patties, cotton balls, butter (made from chicken eggs and soybean oil), simmered chili sauce, cilantro, pork, and shumai. Among them, spring rolls were purchased from a facility near Go market (Truong Quang Trong ward), simmered chili sauce and floss were obtained from a small trader at Tinh Khe market; The remaining ingredients are prepared by the family in the kitchen.

The owner of the facility said that some foods such as beef tendon patties, pork rolls, simmered chili peppers, and cotton balls are bought, preserved, and used for 2-3 days to sell gradually. However, at the time of inspection, the facility owner could not present documents related to business conditions as well as the source and origin of raw materials. The processing area is the family kitchen, then transported by cart to the selling point about 80 meters from the house.

The inspection team sealed all remaining food and proposed to stop operations pending the conclusion of a specialized agency. The Provincial Center for Disease Control took 4 food samples and 7 clinical samples to test and determine the cause.

The local health sector recommends increasing inspections of street food businesses, especially mobile bread vendors; At the same time, propagate people to choose safe foods to limit the risk of poisoning.
