Students expressed with posters what they think about mobile phones in schools: It is better if they are banned

– I always prefer to offer them a topic that is intriguing, provocative, current, which will motivate them. They were encouraged to be engaged in this topic as well. In design, it is very important to do research and analysis, and this was particularly interesting in this topic because it is extremely close to them. After that, they create a concept, their attitude, and conceptual solutions and design. I was surprised when I realized that most of them have a negative attitude towards cell phones at school. I’m happy that they expressed it that way, I think they did a very good job – said Jana Žiljak Gršić, whose second dean’s term at TVZ is coming to an end.

To cry that it is the work of about a hundred students was presented at the international conference Printing and Design 2026 last week at Borongaj Campus in Zagreb. Design includes the first two years of basic subjects, but also a thorough analysis and reflection before the graphic work itself.

It is important to show the design

– It was important to us that students could express their personal views. There is a big difference between this kind of approach and the one that they will have to show when they get to the labor market, where they will have to respect the given, required form. And they probably really liked that, so they showed colorful solutions. Part of this project is to give students the opportunity to communicate their works with the public, so that their designs no longer live only on their computers. Therefore, we have exhibited them and the public will have several more opportunities until the summer to see them – says Morana Jugovi.

The professors said the same thing it is very important to make it clear to pupils and students that new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, cannot be the final solution, but possibly a helpful tool for their own work and creation.

– Artificial intelligence can be a quality help, assistance, but students must first of all develop self-confidence in their work, creativity which will continue to be crucial. We should not be afraid of artificial intelligence in our business either. They also scared us with computers, so today we enroll hundreds of students and most of them get jobs in colleges. during studies. But it is important through education to insist on developing critical thinking, creativity and independence in children and young people – the same Jana Žiljak Gršić, whose father Vilko Žiljak is a pioneer of computer graphics in these areas.

Posters “Mobile phones in schools” will be exhibited for a month, on April 28, in the Technical Museum at the annual TVZ exhibition “Creative Study”. At the end of June, they will be presented at the international scientific conference “Postdigital Backlash: Past, Present, Future”, on June 22 and 23.
