For years, work headphones have been almost invisible tools: indispensable, of course, but confined to a precise function, that of accompanying phone calls, meetings and days in the office without too many demands in terms of design, comfort or listening quality.

Then work has changed shape. It has become hybrid, mobile, fragmented between home, company, airports, trains and shared spaces. And in this new scenario even an apparently simple object like headphones has ceased to be a secondary accessory, transforming into an increasingly central point of contact between productivity, communication and daily life.

This is where Jabra’s challenge starts with the new Evolve3 85, a premium model with which the group tries to overcome an increasingly blurred distinction: that between professional headphones and consumer headphones.

The ambition is to offer a more advanced product of the previous generation, but also to interpret a paradigm shift. A high-end professional headphone today must bring together worlds that until recently remained separate: Hi-Fi quality, active noise cancellation, portability, certifications for collaboration platforms, enterprise security and vocal performance capable of remaining effective even in noisy environments.

Behind this positioning there is also a broader bet, which concerns the future of human-machine interaction. With technologies like ClearVoice and a vision that puts voice at the center of the professional experience, Jabra looks to a context in which speaking to AI platforms, colleagues and agents will be increasingly natural and frequent.

If contemporary work really demands tools capable of following people who are always on the movealways connected and increasingly dependent on the quality of communication, then Evolve3 85 wants to present itself not only as a high-end headset, but as a piece of the new personal infrastructure of work. We talk about it with Luca Barbarossa, Jabra Business Development Manager EMEA South.

With Evolve3 you talk about the first true “crossover” headphones, designed for both work and personal use: are you saying that the boundary between professional and consumer products no longer exists?

Hybrid working, and in particular the ability to work from anywhere, has almost eliminated the separation between consumer and professional headphones. Professional headphones have evolved in both directions: today they offer increasingly advanced performance for work, but they have also overcome those limitations that penalized them for personal use. A high-level professional headphone, thanks to advances in Hi-Fi audio, ANC and design, no longer has anything to envy of consumer models. The reverse path, however, has been less marked: many consumer headphones still do not offer adequate microphones or professional certifications, leaving a clear gap in work applications.

The Evolve3 85 reach 569 euros: why should a professional spend this amount on headphones instead of opting for premium consumer models that are now well established?

The price may seem high, but what should be considered is the overall experience and professional value that comes with it. A headset like the Evolve3 85 allows for levels of productivity that are impossible to achieve with consumer models. Certifications with collaboration platforms guarantee reliability and operational continuity; the broad compatibility with hardware and operating systems offers real flexibility. The performance of the microphones — even in very noisy contexts — allows effective interaction with AI agents and colleagues wherever you are. Added to all this are the typically consumer advantages: Hi‑Fi audio, high-end ANC, modern design and great portability. In summary: would you really trust your daily professional goals to a consumer laptop just because it costs less?

You eliminated the classic microphone arm, which for years was almost a symbol of office headphones: how much was it a design choice and how much was it a technological bet on the maturity of ClearVoice and AI?

The choice arises from a combination of aesthetic needs and technological progress. More and more users asked for professional headphones without arms, because that detail strongly influenced the perception of the design, especially for the new generations. Many preferred more “socially accepted” consumer models, but accepted all the disadvantages in terms of quality of work and complexity for IT. With the development of our ClearVoice technology we have finally been able to combine both needs: a modern and clean design, without any compromise on professional performance.

The system is trained on over 60 million sentences and reaches 96% speech accuracy, up to 99% in open spaces: do you want headphones to become a new interface for accessing artificial intelligence in your daily work?

More and more research indicates that within the next 2-3 years the voice will become the main way to interact with Artificial Intelligence, surpassing the use of the keyboard. At Jabra we are clear about our role: to be the point of contact between humans and AI. To do this, we must achieve levels of accuracy in voice capture never achieved before, even in difficult situations, such as talking in traffic or walking down the street. The Evolve3 were created exactly for this reason.

How important is the ANC today not only to listen better, but to work better?

We have completely redesigned the ANC architecture: new microphones, updated algorithms, more effective isolation materials and the introduction of an adaptive ANC that modulates the intensity based on the context, offering a less invasive and more natural experience. We see ANC as a productivity tool: if I can work from anywhere, I need to be able to concentrate anywhere. Whether for writing emails or analyzing a complex offer, noise cancellation becomes an indispensable ally.

How much is the demand for professional headphones truly designed for mobility and not just for the desk growing?

As mentioned, Modern work — the natural evolution of hybrid work — offers previously unthinkable flexibility, and we are all becoming more aware of the benefits of being able to work from wherever we choose. This freedom, however, requires adequate tools: a light, comfortable headset with great battery life, wireless charging and a foldable design that takes up little space in the backpack. What seems like a small comfort at first quickly becomes a fundamental requirement to truly maintain your productivity on the move.

Between remote management via Jabra Plus, enterprise-level security and right to repair, it seems that the product looks as much at IT departments as at the end user: will the future of professional audio be increasingly a match between user experience, sustainability and corporate governance?

When designing Evolve3 we considered the entire usage chain and all the profiles involved. Convenience, design and flexibility speak to end users; at the same time, the headsets must integrate seamlessly with complex corporate systems, meet the highest security standards and be able to be managed remotely by IT departments. Sustainability has also become an essential requirement. A modern professional headset must address all these needs at once, expanding its capabilities to make working lives easier for people and organizations.
