The Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè she resigned. With a letter to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, he communicated the decision to leave Via di Villa Ada.

“Dear Giorgia, as you have officially hoped, I tender to you my resignation from the role of minister that you wanted to entrust to me and which I believe I have carried out to the best of my ability and without any contraindications. I thank you for the recognition and for the trust you have shown in me in these years of leadership of the Ministry of Tourism”, writes Santanchè.

“I wanted (and I hope you will understand me) that it was publicly clear that it was you who asked me to leave this role because, as I have always said, I would only resign in the face of your explicit and public request. I wanted it to be clear, for my honour, that I am taking a step back, not only due to the request that the head of my Party deems useful and appropriate. I was and am keen to underline that to date my criminal record is immaculate and that for the redundancy fund affair there is not even a simple indictment”, he underlines.

“I don’t want to be the scapegoat for the defeat”

“Yesterday perhaps abruptly (you will understand my state of mind) I represented to you my non-availability for my immediate resignation because I wanted it to be separated both from the comments on the referendum because I would not like to be the scapegoat for a defeat that was certainly not determined by me, also awaited the result in Lombardy and even in my municipality. I also wanted my resignation to be separated from the contingent and very different affair that concerned the Hon. Del Mastro who also pays a high price. Having clarified this I have no difficulty to say “I obey” and to do what you ask of me.”

“I also pay other people’s bills”

“I won’t hide from you a bit of bitterness about the outcome of my ministerial career but in my life I am used to paying my own bills and often those of others too. I care more about our friendship and the future of our movement”, concludes Santanchè.

Santanchè’s ‘flash substitution’ hypothesis

For the moment, a Council of Ministers has not yet been officially convened, but nothing excludes that the meeting could be held tomorrow, during which the issue of a ‘flash’ replacement of the resigning Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè could also come to the table.
