Hamas operatives convicted in Germany

A court in Berlin sentenced four men to prison terms ranging from four and a half to six years in a case involving the preparation of weapons caches for possible terrorist attacks in Europe on behalf of Hamas. As noted by German media, this is the first trial in Germany regarding membership in Hamas.

According to investigators, the convicts, who range in age from 36 to 58, were so-called “foreign operatives” of Hamas and participated in the creation or maintenance of weapons caches in Poland, Bulgaria and Denmark. Prosecutors said the weapons were intended for possible attacks on Israeli, Jewish and other targets in Europe.

The Associated Press previously reported that among the possible targets, the investigation mentioned, in particular, the Israeli Embassy in Berlin and the American Ramstein base.
