Thoughts of ‘disruption’ in Warcraft: ‘Neuralink gave me a new life’

Jon L. Noble, a 43-year-old British Army veteran from Hampshire, marked the first hundred days of his life with Neuralink’s N1 implant, a computer in his brain that, as he says, fundamentally changed his everyday life. Noble, who has been paralyzed from the neck down since 2003 after a severe spinal cord injury sustained in a car accident during his military service, shared his inspiring experience on the social network X. In a post that attracted global attention, he described the technology as revolutionary and key to regaining independence. “A hundred days have passed and I can no longer imagine life without him,” he wrote.

The operation was surprisingly easy

The whole process, which until recently seemed like a script from a science fiction movie, became a reality for Noble on December 11, 2025. The surgical procedure was performed at the prestigious National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, as part of the advanced clinical study GB-PRIME. Under general anesthesia, a specialized robotic system implanted 1,024 ultrathin, flexible threads with surgical precision into his motor cortex, the part of the brain responsible for planning and executing voluntary movements. He described the procedure itself as “suddenly easy”. To everyone’s surprise, he was released from the hospital just 12 hours later. The recovery was equally impressive: moreć on the third day he felt much better, and by the seventh day the small surgical scar on his head had begun to fade noticeably.

From complete beginner to advanced user

The real turning point and “the beginning of the fun,” as Noble described it, came two weeks after the surgery, when his implant was seamlessly paired with a MacBook computer for the first time. Although he had never used Apple’s operating system before, after very short calibration sessions led by Neuralink engineers, he began to move the cursor around the screen using only the power of his thoughts. It is fascinating that moreć by the third week he had mastered the basic functions to the extent that actions such as scrolling, clicking and typing became “second nature” to him. His progress was so rapid that he went from a complete novice to a “power user” in record time, surpassing all the expectations of the team that followed his development.

Peak Achievement: Playing World of Warcraft with your mind

On the 80th day of his implant journey, Noble was ready for what he called “the big league.” He managed to fully play one of the most famous online games in the world, World of Warcraft, using only his thoughts to control the character. He admitted that in the beginning the process of dubbing was challenging, but with dedication and practice, his brain and sophisticated environment achieved an enviable level of harmony. Soon he was able to explore the virtual world of Azeroth and participate in complex missions (raids) at full speed, without any physical interaction with the computer. A video clip he shared on the X network demonstrating his skills went viral and inspired thousands of people.

‘They are not just new način the use of računal, ve&cacucut; nine people života’

Noble, who has been officially identified as the 18th patient in the world and the fifth in the UK with a Neuralink implant, stresses that the device has not only given him a new method of managing the technology. “The N1 didn’t just give me a new way of using a computer – it gave me a new way of life,” he wrote, adding that the newfound “freedom is contagious.” He was restored to a key level of independence that quadriplegia had taken from him, enabling him to once again communicate, work and have fun in the digital world independently. His experience, along with that of the first patient Noland Arbaugh, provides invaluable data for the further development of the brain-computer interface and offers concrete hope to millions of people around the world who are facing severe forms of paralysis.
