Basketball European Cup: Bayern basketball players win against the bottom of the Euroleague

After three defeats in a row in the Euroleague, FC Bayern Munich’s basketball players have achieved another victory in the European Cup. The Bundesliga basketball team won against bottom-placed Asvel Villeurbanne 93:83 (39:42). The Munich team achieved their 14th win in their 34th game of the season. Even before the game, participation in the playoffs was no longer mathematically possible for Bayern.

For Munich, head coach Svetislav Pesic was back on the sidelines, having missed the defeat in Kaunas two days earlier due to illness. Pesic got off to a good start in defense, Bayern only conceded six points in the first five minutes and were ahead 18:17 after the first quarter. However, the hosts didn’t really find their rhythm offensively and went into the locker room with a 39:42 deficit.

Bayern are improving offensively from quarter to quarter

After the break, Bayern improved offensively, with Justinian Jessup (19 points) remaining the best option. Although the Bundesliga team was unable to break away, they continued to extend their lead to a six-point difference in the fourth quarter. In the final phase, Bayern ultimately pulled away. After 19, 20 and 25 points in the first three quarters, the hosts increased their lead to 29 points in the fourth half.

The Pesic team will play four more games in the Euroleague this season, next up is the last home game against title candidates Fenerbahce Istanbul on April 1st.
