War in Iran, Venezuela… American students’ responses to international news dismay Internet users

Between alcohol in abundance and students in swimsuits, the spring breakor spring break in the United States, is a mecca for debauchery for students wherever they are. The temperature is rising, tempers are heating up… To the point of forgetting the rest of the world? It would seem so, according to the sidewalk microphone produced by a Fox News journalist sent to a beach in Miami.

Broadcast this Wednesday, March 24 and relayed on social networks, the sequence quickly went viral, the students’ responses being surprising, amusing, even dismaying.

Gaps on the ICE

“If you were president of the United States, what would be the first thing you would do? », asks the journalist, for example, to his young interlocutors. “I would buy something really cool, like a bunch of cars,” responds a young woman. “All girls should be in bikinis 7 days a week, 24 hours a day,” says one student. “I would give a lot of money to my friends and myself,” admits another vacationer, claiming to be ready to “steal” this amount. The journalist asks her if she would plunder the Federal Reserve (the central bank of the United States), but her interlocutor does not seem to know what it is about.

Video“It’s over between us”: Miami no longer wants “springbreakers” on its beaches

Asked about ICE, the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is in the news for its violent arrests, several students talk about ice cubes (” ice » also meaning “ice” in English). “It makes any drink better,” says one young woman.

Venezuela in Spain and the war in Iraq

As for the challenges facing the United States, currently at war with Iran, the students respond that obesity, the choice of their bikini, the quality of their tan or their order at Starbucks is what matters most to them. They also ignore the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, or even the existence of the word “ayatollah”.

Geopolitical question, the young people who appear in the sequence do not shine more. “What do you know about what Trump has done recently? », asks the journalist. “The Gulf of America is the last thing I remember (the president had the Gulf of Mexico renamed in February 2025; editor’s note). “He started a war with Iraq, it’s crazy,” says one student. “What he did in Colombia, Maduro,” declares another young person, in reference to the capture of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela, which another vacationer places… In Spain.

On social networks, some Internet users can’t believe their ears: “They’re joking, aren’t they? », “The bikini takes priority, geopolitics can wait, right? “, “No one should have the right to vote under the age of 30”, “The first thing that comes to mind is the financial burden that their parents must bear to allow them to continue their higher education when there is little hope of making this investment profitable”, we can read on X.

Another, not fooled, tempers: “These interviews are a small segment of society.” A small segment that has been making the rounds on the Internet.
