Trump revealed: the gift I received from Iran

US President Donald Trump revealed that Iran allowed 10 oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz this week as a “gift” to the United States.

“They said, ‘To show you the fact that we are real and stable and we are there, we will give you eight oil boats … and they will sail tomorrow,'” Trump said during a cabinet meeting, referring to Iran.

He added: “Then they apologized for something they said, and they said, ‘We’re going to send two more boats.’ And in the end it was 10 boats.”

In doing so, Trump removed the fog surrounding his earlier statement that Iran “gave us a gift” related to oil and gas.

Trump made the revelations as part of his insistence on showing that the US is holding “very substantial talks regarding Iran”, although Tehran denies that any direct talks have taken place.

The US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said at the meeting that the US had “multiple requests from the region and others who want to play a role in ending the conflict peacefully.”

Witkoff also confirmed that the US had presented a 15-point framework for a peace agreement and said it was delivered through Pakistan, which acted as a mediator.

Iran’s state media reported on Wednesday that Tehran rejected a US ceasefire proposal and submitted its own list of conditions to end the war.

Throughout the meeting, Trump and other officials, including Defense Minister Pete Hegsath, claimed that the US had severely damaged Iran’s military capabilities.

“We estimated that it would take about four to six weeks to achieve our mission. And we are way ahead of schedule,” Trump said, but he admitted that Iran’s continued ability to block the strait – through which about 20 million barrels of oil pass daily, or a quarter of the world’s maritime crude oil – remains an unsolved challenge.
