Access to the final in Miami earned Sinner 650 points, which brought the blue to 12,050 points, i.e. -1540 from Alcaraz. And the gap, thanks to the final victory, has shortened even further. Sinner has in fact reached 12,400 points, therefore ‘only’ 1190 points away from Alcaraz’s first place in the rankings.

How can Sinner return to number one in Monte Carlo?

Sinner could return number one already in Monte Carlo. The next Masters 1000 on the calendar offers the Italian a great chance: Alcaraz will arrive at the event as the reigning champion, therefore with 1000 points to defend, while Sinner, once again, will have everything to gain having not been able to participate last year.

In the event of a final victory, regardless of the Spaniard’s result, Sinner will return to number one in the ATP ranking. But it’s not the only possible combination. The blue could regain the lead even without winning the tournament, reaching the final, but provided that Alcaraz does not go beyond the semi-final. Or Sinner could celebrate by reaching the semi-final, if the Spaniard doesn’t go beyond the quarter-finals. The last combination is more difficult, i.e. if Sinner goes out in the quarter-finals and Alcaraz doesn’t get past the second round, being eliminated on his debut.
