The appeal trial of the 18 Senegalese and the French, incarcerated since the CAN final, postponed to April 13

They are still not sure of their fate. This Monday, 18 Senegalese supporters and a French national were to be tried on appeal after being convicted at first instance for violence, damage and invasion of the pitch during the final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

However, while they were punished with prison sentences, the appeal trial was postponed until April 13, at the request of their lawyers in order to better prepare their defense, reports the newspaper L’Équipe.

On February 19, the court handed out sentences ranging from three to twelve months in prison. The Frenchman concerned was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment: he will thus have served almost his entire sentence on the day of the trial, almost three months after the final played on January 18.

The stewards’ version contested

While the Senegalese players withdrew from the field for a while during the match against Morocco (1-0, ap), clashes broke out between stewards and spectators at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat.

The 19 supporters were arrested for “acts of hooliganism” before being supported by the players of the Senegalese selection. The accused and their counsel dispute the version of the stewards and police officers. This final has not stopped talking since CAF withdrew the title from Senegal in favor of Morocco in mid-March.
