Luis Arce: Prosecutor’s Office searches the home of the former president of Bolivia in a case of alleged corruption

“Documentation has been collected in large quantities, regarding assets and financial movements, devices and laptop computers and money for more than 100,000 bolivianos (14,413 dollars).“Tórrez told the media at the conclusion of the examination.

He also indicated that the material will be processed and that “all witnesses” of the case.

Arce has been in preventive detention since last December 12 for alleged responsibilities in mismanagement in a fund for indigenous projects when he was Minister of Economy in the Government of Evo Morales (2006-2019).

The case opened in the Santa Cruz Prosecutor’s Office for legitimation of illicit profits corresponds to another case in which, in addition to the former head of state, his children are included. Luis Marcelo, Rafael Ernesto y Camila Arce Mosqueira.

Of the three brothers, Marcelo Arce was arrested on March 18 and sent to preventive detention two days later to the prison of Palmasolain Santa Cruz.

On that occasion, prosecutor Tórrez specified that Marcelo Arce, “together with your family nucleus”, used economic resources to acquire different assets in La Paz and Santa Cruz, in addition to carrying out transactions in the financial system that were observed.

When he was arrested, Marcelo Arce was accused by the Government of Rodrigo Paz of allegedly posing as an official of the state company. Bolivian Fiscal Oil Fields (YPFB).

The president of YPFB, Yussef Aklymentioned that the family environment of former President Arce was the cause of an alleged embezzlement of 1,000 million bolivianos (144 million dollars) and pointed to Marcelo Arce as part of a criminal structure causing this economic damage.

In addition, Rafael and Camila Arce, whose whereabouts are unknown, have been investigated since 2024 for obtaining a loan for $9.1 million, carried out in six operations with the same bank in October 2021, when both were 25 and 20 years old, respectively.

According to the investigation, this money was used to acquire a 2,187-hectare property in Santa Cruz for an agricultural project and, in addition, it was confirmed that they later bought an apartment and luxury vehicles in La Paz.

Despite the accusations, former president Arce and his son Marcelo assured, after being arrested, each on their own, that the accusations against them are “politicians”.
