More than 1,400 science and technology missions deployed across the country

The whole country is implementing 1,458 science and technology, innovation and digital transformation tasks, most of which have been completed or on schedule.

The information was stated by Permanent Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan at the second meeting in 2026 of the Steering Committee for science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation and Project 06, taking place this week.

Of the 1,458, there are 339 regular missions. To date, 862 tasks have been completed, 481 tasks are on time, but there are still overdue tasks. The representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology said that it is necessary to speed up progress to soon move to the actual implementation phase.

As the focal agency, the Ministry has clearly identified key tasks, associated with specific timelines. In particular, before April 30, an interdisciplinary working group will be established and complete the strategic technology list. Before May 31, propose specific policy mechanisms and issue implementation guidance documents. The set of national standards on strategic technology is expected to be issued before June 30. According to Deputy Minister Vu Hai Quan, the tasks have been clearly defined in terms of content, time and responsibilities.

In the first months of the year, the science and technology industry recorded a number of milestones such as the inauguration of the Vietnam Space Center and the commencement of the first semiconductor chip manufacturing factory. Some businesses have mastered 65 core technologies, in areas such as AI cameras, 5G, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The training of high-quality human resources, especially in fields such as AI and semiconductor chips, is being promoted. Vietnam’s global innovation index continues to improve. Cooperation with large technology corporations has been enhanced to promote technology transfer and attract investment in research and development centers.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the results achieved in the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and Project 06. He said that awareness of the position and role of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation is “increasingly increasing” in the political system, businesses and people. At the same time, strategic technology development is now adjusted according to a new approach, stemming from major problems of each industry and field, instead of starting from technology.

However, the Prime Minister said that there are still some problems. Mechanisms and policies in some areas are slowly being amended and supplemented to suit reality. Digital infrastructure in some areas, especially remote areas, does not meet requirements. There is still a local shortage of highly qualified human resources in key technology industries.

In the coming time, the Government will prioritize institutional improvement, considering this a “breakthrough of breakthroughs”, in order to create a legal corridor for innovation. Tasks such as increasing the rate of online application processing, building a shared national database, and ensuring connectivity and information security will be promoted. Along with that, telecommunications infrastructure, 5G networks and data centers will be invested and upgraded. The government also proposed establishing a working group on strategic technology development, headed by a Deputy Prime Minister.
