Urtasun participates in the international meeting of ministers ‘Culture for Resilience’ and defends its support for Ukraine

The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, has participated in the second International Conference ‘Culture for Resilience’, organized by Ukrainewhere he has reaffirmed his support with the people who have suffered “an aggression“.

“Ukraine is defending its sovereignty, but it is also defending its memory, its heritage, its contemporary creation and, in fact, an essential part of European cultural diversity; defending Ukrainian culture is not a secondary or symbolic matter: it is part of the defense of freedom“, Urtasun assured in his speech in Lviv.

The event brought together their European counterparts, including the ministers of Croatia, Latvia, Finland, Sweden and Italy, as well as representatives of the European Commission and UNESCO.

Thus, various thematic debates have been held in which issues such as the current state of the Ukrainian cultural sector, the initiatives carried out within the framework of the Alliance for Cultural Resilience, international collaboration and the resources available for heritage protection in the context of war have been addressed.

In that sense, Urtasun noted that “Spain is and will always be at the side of those who suffer aggression“. “We will continue to accompany the Ukrainian people in their reconstruction,” he added.

The Conference closed with a visit to the Bernardine Monastery, located in the historic center of Lviv, affected by the Russian drone attack last week. This complex has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998.

On the other hand, the head of the Department of Culture and his Ukrainian counterpart, Tetyana Berezhna, They have signed a memorandum of cooperation between both countries.

The document is aimed at promoting collaboration in the field of technical training of professionals in the cultural sector, especially in the protection of cultural heritage at risk, but also in the areas of cultural management and artistic creation.
