Controversy over a group of government officials and legislators who obtained mortgage loans at Banco Nación

The information comes from the Central Bank’s Debtors Center and was processed by the “How much do they owe?” platform, developed by data viewer Andrés Snitcofsky and made public in the last few hours, to track the monthly debt evolution declared by politically exposed people such as officials, deputies or senators.

In the public bank they assure that 90% of the mortgage loans were granted by that entity and that this responds, in part, to the fact that it manages the salary accounts of State employees.

On the list of officials who took out mortgage loans at the BNA there are members of the economic team. The two with the highest credits are Juan Pedro Inchauspemember of the BCRA board, and Felipe Nunezadvisor Luis Caputo and director of the Investment and Foreign Trade Bank (BICE).

In both cases, the credit is equivalent to about US$ 350.000 at the time they were awarded. For Inchauspe they were $510 million last December and, for Núñez, $373 million in February of last year.

Further behind him are the now Secretary of Finance Federico Furiaseto whom the BNA awarded $367 million last August, equivalent to 276 thousand dollars. At the time the operation was carried out, Furiase was a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank and advisor to the Minister of Economy. From the Treasury Palace they did not comment on the query of Clarion.

Appears on the platform “How much do they owe?” also a member of the YPF board of directors. It is about Emiliano Mongilardiwho has been part of the company since 2023 and who was a provincial deputy for Chubut. His credit was for $302 million last October, equivalent to just over 211 thousand dollars.

Finally, it also appears Juan Pablo Carreiraofficial Twitter user known on the networks as Juan Doe and who is designated as the head of the Official Response Officethe agency created by the national government to “deny fake news.” In their case, they were 77 thousand dollars ($112 million last December).

There is also a group of legislators from La Libertad Avanza (LLA) who obtained mortgage loans at Banco Nación. Were Mariano Campero (national representative for Tucumán) for an amount of $279 million in May 2025, equivalent to 243 thousand dollars.

They are followed, ordered by loan size, Santiago Santurio (Buenos Aires), with an equivalent of 239 thousand dollars ($303 million in July of last year); Lorena Villaverde (Río Negro) by $227 million in January 2025 (about US$ 218 thousand).

Then Alejandro Bongiovanni (Santa Fe), with an amount that represents 176 thousand dollars ($255 million last January); and further back Maria Frias (Chubut) and Alejandro Carrancio (Buenos Aires), with about US$ 145.000 each at the time each credit was awarded.

From Banco Nación, which presides Dario Wassermanassured this newspaper that none of the explicit cases represented an “exception” to the rule and normal traceability of mortgage loans.

Furthermore, that the “scoring” that the entity must measure to grant the credit according to the income of the applicant (which can be presented with co-debtors) were those indicated in all cases.

The opposition came out to demand public explanations from Banco Nación. The national representative for Santa Fe Esteban Paulona member of the United Provinces bench, presented a draft resolution to determine “if there are specific indicators or evaluations linked to the management of the credit portfolio and compliance with criteria of transparency and equality in access to credit.”

Also if there were SIGEN controls that have measured “potential conflicts of interest or preferential treatmentl in the granting of credits”.

Paulón also involved the Superintendence of Financial and Exchange Entities of the BCRAand asked to know if there were warnings to the BNA for a possible “excess of credit assistance limits to ‘related persons’ (public officials) and/or politically exposed persons.”
