Microsoft will show the status of Secure Boot certificates in the Windows Security app

Starting in April, Microsoft will show the status of the operating system’s secure boot certificates in the Windows Security application, to help users manage the security of their computers.

The technology company reported in February that it had begun working to update Windows Secure Boot certificates, which protect computers from the moment they are turned on, to prevent threats that are later more difficult to detect.

The reason is that after 15 years since their implementation, these certificates will begin to expire in June, and that is why it is working together with computer manufacturers on new certificates.

Although they are not yet available, Microsoft has announced that the status of the secure boot certificates can be checked in the Windows Security application, as stated in a statement shared on its Support blog.

This tool will allow you to easily check the certificate status of a specific device with a color code. Thus, if a green icon with a white tick is displayed, no actions are recommended since the device is protected, with secure boot activated and the certificates updated.

If the icon is yellow with a black exclamation point, it includes security recommendations since the computer is running an old certificate, while if it is red with a white cross, it indicates that there is something that requires immediate attention because, although Secure Boot is enabled, the computer can no longer receive updates.

This verification will be available from April. In May, notifications, guides and controls will also be added to help respond to Secure Boot alerts.
