Foxes celebrate clear home win against Leipzig

The Füchse Berlin are back on the road to success in the handball Bundesliga. A week after the defeat at SC Magdeburg, the Berliners won today in front of 8,725 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle against bottom team SC DHfK Leipzig with 39:26 (20:10).

The best Berlin throwers were Lasse Andersson and Mathias Gidsel, and at Leipzig it was Tomas Piroch – all with six goals.

For the first time since his dismissal as head of sports at the beginning of September last year, Stefan Kretzschmar was at a Füchse home game again.

“Certainly a little emotional, certainly unusual, but I’m happy to be here again,” he said. The 53-year-old Dyn expert also has a history on the board of directors in Leipzig.

From the start, the defending champion lived up to his role as favorite and set a lot of pace.

Leipzig was immediately overwhelmed and repeatedly failed because of Füchse keeper Lasse Ludwig – even with the first seven-meter penalty. So the Berliners quickly left. After just 17 minutes the lead reached double digits (15:5).

Nothing changed after the break. After 44 minutes the lead had increased to 33:16. This meant that the Berliners were able to conserve their strength and switch things up early on. Leipzig was able to cosmeticize the results a bit, but had no chance until the end. (dpa)
