Google and Back Market launch a USB kit to install ChromeOS Flex on older computers

Google will make it easier to install its cloud-based operating system ChromeOS Flex con a new USB kit which it has created together with Back Market, with which they aim to extend the useful life of obsolete computers.

ChromeOS Flex is a version of ChromeOS created for laptops, which is cloud-based and designed to give a second life to Windows and Mac computers that may have become outdated.

This system, available from 2022, is installed on old computers through a USB after downloading it from their website and offers background updates that prevent its slowdown. But now there is also a new USB kit available that can be purchased at the Back Market store.

“Together with Back Market, we are showing that the most sustainable device is usually the one you already have in your hands,” Google said on its official blog. ChromeOS Flex itself is free, but the USB kit offers a physical storage drive, which can be reused, for about 3 eurosand includes simplified guides and video tutorials.

Once installed, ChromeOS Flex gives access to the services and tools normally used from the browser: Internet browsing, email, video calls, Google Docs, streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube, inter alia.
