Samsung has announced that Your Messages application will no longer be available starting next July hence has recommended users migrate to Google Messages as your default messaging app to “maintain a consistent messaging experience on Android.”
The company will permanently end support for its own messaging app in July, two years after excluding it by default from its phones to replace it with Google’s Messages app.
After urging users to migrate to Google Messages after that change, Samsung has relapsed into changing the application in favor of Google’s for several reasons. First of all, the security since Google Messages has scam detection technology using artificial intelligence (AI), as well as ‘spam’ filters to identify and block suspicious messages.
On the other hand, the Google application has RCS messaging on Android and iOS to share files, Gemini integration in chats, as well as connectivity between devices without interruptions.
“Update to Google Messages as your default messaging application today to maintain a consistent messaging experience on Android,” the company urged in a statement on its website, in which it notes that, depending on the operating system, users will receive a notification in the Messages application to help make this migration.
MIGRATION TO GOOGLE MESSAGES
Likewise, the company has shared how to make this change manually. First, users must install Google Messages from the Play Store if they don’t have it by default. Once installed, when it is opened for the first time a message will appear asking it to be set as the default SMS application through the device settings.
However, for the Android 12 and 13 usersthe Google Messages icon will not automatically update in the taskbar on the device’s main screen, so after installing the ‘app’, you will have to drag it manually, replacing Samsung Messages.
Samsung explained in the statement that, once its Messages application is no longer available in July, users will no longer be able to use it on their phones except for emergency services or contacts.
Furthermore, the company has stressed that Previous generation watches with Tizen OS do not support Google Messagesso users will not be able to see the history of their conversations on the devices. However, they will be able to read and send new messages.
For Samsung devices older than 2022, migrating to Google Messages may temporarily interrupt ongoing RCS conversations. However, these can be resumed if both parties have the Google ‘app’.
