After a headline-grabbing arrest in Los Angeles last August, US rapper Lil Nas X avoided a possible prison sentence. A judge in California is allowing the 26-year-old singer to undergo treatment through a mental health diversion program, according to prosecutors.
If the rapper adheres to the conditions for two years, the charges can be dismissed. If a trial results in a conviction, the Grammy Award winner could face up to five years in prison.
Bizarre Incident From ‘Old Town Road’ Singer
The “Old Town Road” singer walked through Los Angeles in the early hours of last August wearing only his underwear and boots, and later completely naked. US media posted videos of the incident.
He was picked up by police officers – the situation escalated. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the musician is said to have attacked officers during the arrest, injuring at least three of them. The charges were assault and resisting a police officer.
According to his lawyer, the rapper visited a therapy clinic after his arrest and underwent lengthy treatment on his own initiative.
The musician, whose real name is Montero Hill and who grew up in the US state of Georgia, had his breakthrough in 2019 with the country/hip-hop hit “Old Town Road”. In 2021, Lil Nas X released his successful debut album “Montero”.
