Majorie Taylor Greene and Alex Jones: Ultra-right calls for Trump’s impeachment

In the USA, resistance to the president’s war policy is growing Donald Trump. After the opposition Democrats, prominent opinion leaders from the ultra-right camp are now also bringing up Trump’s impeachment under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution. “25th Amendment!!!,” commented the former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday Trump’s threat to kill “an entire civilization” in the Iran war.

Taylor Greene was considered a leading representative of the “Make America Great Again” Movement before they decided, among other things, because of the Epstein affair fell out with Trump. Also the ultra-right radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones spoke out in favor of activating the 25th Amendment because of the Iran war. “How can we subject him to the 25th Amendment,” Jones asked in a conversation with a legal expert, who then pointed out the high hurdles to doing so.

The Democratic Senator Chris Murphy Before the most recent post, Trump’s government members had already suggested that they “spend the Easter holidays calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment. This is completely out of control. He has already killed thousands and he will kill thousands more,” Murphy wrote X.

Trump himself spoke about declaring himself unfit for office

Trump himself spoke openly in a Cabinet meeting at the end of March about the possible use of the constitutional provision against him. When it comes to Iran, he “can’t say what we’re going to do, because if I did, I wouldn’t be here for long,” Trump said at the meeting on March 26, according to the television station PBS. “They would probably, what’s that called, activate the 25th Amendment, which they did with (predecessor Joe) Biden “didn’t do what was shocking.”

The 25th Amendment regulates the succession of US presidents and their deputies as a result of death, resignation or incapacity to hold office. The latter is determined in a complex process by the Vice President and Cabinet with a majority vote, but this determination must be confirmed by the US Congress with a two-thirds majority. The hurdles are therefore higher than in the impeachment process. This is intended to ensure that the provision is actually only applied in the event of incapacity for office – and not for political reasons. Trump survived impeachment proceedings twice because the required two-thirds majority for impeachment was not achieved in the Senate.
