Iran: strikes against military targets on the island of Kharg, oil installations spared for the moment

It is the nerve center of the Iranian oil industry. Strikes were carried out against the island of Kharg in the Gulf, the Iranian Mehr news agency reported on Tuesday, with American media claiming that Washington had struck only military targets.

“The American-Zionist enemy carried out several attacks on the island of Kharg (southwest) and several explosions were heard there,” reported the Iranian Mehr news agency.

The American strikes targeted only military objectives, oil installations having been spared, report CNN and the Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources within the American government. The economic daily reports more than 50 targets targeted by the American army.

90% of gross exports

The price of a barrel of American WTI oil rose 2% after this information, to $114.71.

A strip of bushy land located in the northern Gulf, about 30 kilometers from the Iranian coast, Kharg is home to Iran’s largest oil terminal which provides around 90% of its crude exports, according to a recent note from the American bank JP Morgan.

It was the target in mid-March of “one of the most powerful air raids in history in the Middle East”, according to Donald Trump, who assured that he had destroyed “all military targets” there.

He added that industrial infrastructure had been deliberately spared. Before threatening a few days later to annihilate the island.
