Tchouaméni: “I don’t understand my yellow card”

Real Madrid defender Aurélien Tchouaméni has assured that he does not understand the yellow card he saw this Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Bayern Munich (1-2) and that it will make him miss the second leg, and he has described the referee’s decision as “unfair.”

“I really don’t understand it. I haven’t seen the images, but on the field I haven’t tried to do anything, I was just running. I think the referee, with all the fouls that occurred before, thought he had to get a yellow card, but I think it’s unfair,” he told the media after the game.

Furthermore, he did not want to talk about who should be his replacement in the Munich return. “Do you think I’m going to respond to that? We have an incredible squad and I’m sure there are other players who are going to play at a high level to help the team. I hope we win that game,” he said.

On the other hand, the French midfielder is clear about what was missing to win. “Concede less and score more goals,” he said concisely. “We knew before starting that there were two games. We have played the first and the second remains, and I am sure that if we play at our level we can win. We are going to give everything even if it is a difficult game, but if we play at our level and continue with confidence we can do it,” he noted.

“It was a game where both teams created many chances. It became more difficult when we started with 0-2, but when we started to raise the level a little in the second half and try to go more towards goal, we did it,” he stressed.

In another vein, Tchouaméni spoke about how to stop Michael Olise in the game on German soil. “He is a ‘top’ player. Playing with him in the national team is incredible, and today he played a high-level game and we surely have to defend more against him and help Álvaro -Carreras- as well,” he stressed.

Finally, he asked the Madrid fans not to lose confidence in the team. “We need the support of the fans and we are going to give everything to win this match and win the semi-final. We must play at our level, concede less and score more goals. We have the level to win there and we have to do it,” he concluded.
