Neuss – Major operation in the afternoon in Rommerskirchen: At 4:24 p.m. a man entered a savings bank, presumably with a firearm. According to initial findings, he apparently wanted to rob the bank. When the police arrived, the suspect was still in the building. The savings bank is now surrounded by heavily armed officers and a police helicopter is circling over the building.
It is currently unclear whether there are still customers or employees in the branch and possibly being held hostage. Special operations teams from all over North Rhine-Westphalia as well as other police forces and rescue services are on the way. The Düsseldorf police headquarters took over operational management.
