To increasingly become a point of reference for the history and archeology of Magna Graecia, establishing itself as an international cultural hub of the Mediterranean. Strengthen the link with the territory by focusing on the development of an innovative and accessible cultural offer and on strengthening the ability to attract economic and planning resources. These are the main objectives of the 2026–2028 Strategic Plan of the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria which aims to become an engine of territorial and national growth. At the center of the Plan, presented this morning, is the improvement of the overall quality of the museum experience, through coordinated interventions on physical, cognitive and digital accessibility, on the care of spaces and on cultural programming. From this perspective, the protection, conservation and digitalisation of collections represent a strategic prerequisite for the valorisation of heritage. The Plan therefore responds to the need to provide the museum – custodian of a unique heritage in the world, starting from the Riace Bronzes – with a structured programme.
“The 2026–2028 Strategic Plan represents a fundamental tool for the Museum to plan the future with awareness and coherence. It arises from the shared need to overcome fragmented interventions and build a unitary vision, capable of integrating the different projects and fully enhancing the potential of the MarRc”, stated Fabrizio Sudano, director of the Calabrian museum who added: “It is a path that puts people at the centre, strengthening the identity of the Museum and its ability to dialogue with the territory, with the public and with the institutions, in an increasingly open and plural perspective. We want to strengthen the role of the Museum as a place of research, dialogue and development, open to the community and projected into a national and international dimension, capable of addressing the challenges of digitalisation, accessibility and sustainability with adequate tools”.

The journey involved a team led by director Fabrizio Sudano and enriched by Massimo Osanna, General Director of Museums of the Ministry of Culture. The project involved the museum staff, an integral part of all the construction phases of the Plan, and was carried out thanks to the operational and planning support of CoopCulture and made use of the scientific and methodological contribution of Ludovico Solima of the University of Campania ‘Luigi Vanvitelli’.
“The Strategic Plan of the MArRC is a fundamental tool to guide its development, clarify its priorities and strengthen its cultural, scientific and territorial role”, underlined Ludovico Solima who collaborated in drafting the Plan. “This is not a formal fulfillment, but a governance device that allows the Museum to define clear objectives, enhance its resources and consolidate the relationship with the public, the territory and the stakeholders. The Plan arises from a rigorous path, based on data analysis, on listening and on the ability to translate planning into concrete and sustainable actions, enhancing the heritage, the public function of the Museum and its projection in the Mediterranean context”.
