La Jornada: UNAM will honor Enrique Semo with an academic meeting

Enrique Semo, emeritus researcher and reference in the historical and economic reflection of Mexico, will be honored by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) at the Encrucijada Global academic meeting, which will be held from April 15 to 17, at university campuses.

Organized by the faculties of Philosophy and Letters, and Economics, as well as by the University Seminar on Scientific and Philosophical Problems, prominent figures from the social sciences and humanities will participate in the tribute.

The program of activities includes keynote conferences and panel discussions on contemporary challenges on a global and national scale.

First appointment at the Faculty of Economics

The opening ceremony of the Global Encrucijada and Mexico meeting: Recognition of Enrique Semo, will be on April 15 at 10 a.m. in the Narciso Bassols auditorium of the Faculty of Economics.

During this day, analysis tables will be held with the participation of specialists such as Noemí Levy, Teresa Aguirre, Carlos Illades, Leonel Corona, Armando Bartra, René Millán, Elvira Concheiro and Alejandro Álvarez Béjar, who will address topics such as the change of era and alternatives to the neoliberal structure.

The activities will continue on April 16 in the Fray Alonso de la Veracruz lecture hall of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, where the keynote lecture by geographer and social theorist David Harvey will take place at 10 a.m.

The table is scheduled at 12 noon Mexico facing global challenges and risks, with the participation of Marcela Amaro, Cristina Gómez, Ambrosio Velasco, Luis Hernández Navarro and Axel Didriksson.

Conferences and closing

The meeting will conclude on April 17 at the Palacio de la Autonomía, with a keynote address by Juan Ramón de la Fuente, followed by the closing ceremony in which Alejandro Encinas, Amalia García and Rosaura Ruiz will participate, along with Enrique Semo himself.

According to the organizers, the meeting is presented as a space for interdisciplinary dialogue that seeks to reflect, from the humanities and social sciences, on global transformations and their implications for Mexico in the current context.
