The Horst Brandstätter Group, parent company of Playmobilwants to start producing the famous plastic toys in their only German factory in Dietenhofen in Middle Franconia in Bavaria until the end of June. The negotiations with the works council about the establishment of a transfer company and a social plan are currently in the “final phase,” said a company spokesman when asked by the German Press Agency. The process announced in February is running according to plan.
350 employees affected
Layoffs for the 350 employees to date have not yet been announced by mutual agreement. “Our clear goal is to give employees a perspective beyond June 30, 2026 as part of a transfer company and to actively support employees in the transition to new employment relationships,” emphasized the spokesman. In the future, the production of Playmobil figures will continue at existing company locations in Malta and the Czech Republic.
30 percent less sales
The Horst Brandstätter Group has gone through difficult times in recent years. The relevance of Playmobil toys in children’s rooms has decreased. In just a few years, the group lost a third of its sales. Company boss Bahri Kurter announced at the toy fair in January that a turnaround could be achieved.
