Volleyball: Lüneburg loses its first CEV Cup final against Piacenza

The SVG Lüneburg volleyball players suffered a defeat in the final first leg of the CEV Cup. The German cup winner lost to the Italian representative Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza 0:3 (24:26, 22:25, 16:25). In the second leg next Wednesday (8 p.m./Sporteurope.TV), coach Stefan Hübner’s team now needs a 3-0 or 3-1 win in order to secure their place in the Golden Set.

In the first round, the hosts pulled away from 5:1 to 14:9 in front of the 3,200 spectators in the sold-out LKH Arena. But Piacenza didn’t let himself be left behind, was ahead for the first time at 24:23 and then secured the 1-0 lead in the set.

Section two was a mirror image. This time the Italians, who had eliminated the German champions BR Volleys from Berlin in the quarter-finals, made up a 12:18 deficit. After that, the “Lüne-Hünen” resistance was broken. With the first match point, Piacenza clinched a clear victory after almost 90 minutes of play.

Sunday game two in the DM semi-final series

For the Lüneburgers, it is the second final participation in the CEV Cup after 2024. At that time, SVG lost to the top Polish team Resovia Rzeszow (Poland).

On Sunday (6 p.m. / Dyn) the move into the final series for the German championship should be made clear. The game is played at the SWD Powervolleys Düren, against whom the Hübner team won the first game of the “Best of Three” semi-finals 3-0.
