Ramagem is released from ICE prison in the United States

Alexandre Ramagem was detained in the US, at the disposal of immigration authorities, after being caught on Monday for a traffic violation and having been found to have no updated permission documents to drive in the US by ICE.

Figueiredo attributed it to American President Trump and thanked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his friend’s release. No further details were provided about the release by ICE.

Ramagem deserves asylum in the land of freedom alongside his brave wife – tireless for his freedom – and beautiful daughters”, wrote Figueiredo in his account on X.

The Federal Police (PF) of Brazil reported that Ramagem’s arrest occurred after exchanging information with North American authorities, within the scope of international cooperation mechanisms activated after Alexandre Ramagem’s name was included in search and capture systems.

Soon after the release, Paulo Figueiredo went public to say that what happened, in reality, was not an arrest, but an arrest after a police stop for a minor traffic violation.

According to sources familiar with the investigation heard by People’s Gazettethe former parliamentarian’s residence and movement had been monitored for months. The whereabouts were discovered after Ramagem used the passport canceled by the courts to buy a car.

Ramagem was sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to 16 years in prison for participating in an attempted coup d’état. The former parliamentarian was considered a fugitive since he left the country before the conclusion of the trial.
