Valencia Basket will face Panathinaikos in the Euroleague ‘Playoff’

Valencia Basket will face Panathinaikos in the Euroleague Playoff, after the Greek team, seventh in the Regular Phase of the top continental competition, won this Tuesday in its Play-in match against AS Monaco (87-79).

Ergin Ataman’s men, who left with a lead of 15 points at halftime (49-34), held on to the 21 points of the nationalized Macedonian American point guard TJ Shorts, who closed the match with 24 points of valuation.

In this way, they will meet in the quarterfinal series, in the best of five games, with the ‘taronja’ team, which was second in the Regular Phase. The tie will begin with two games at the Roig Arena, the first on Tuesday, April 28 (8:45 p.m.) and the second on Thursday, April 30 (8:45 p.m.).

The series will move to OAKA in Athens, precisely the site of this year’s Final Four, the following week, with the third game scheduled for May 5 or 6 and the fourth game, if necessary, for May 7 or 8. If a fifth match is needed to decide the ticket to the Final Four, the tie would close at the Roig Arena on May 12 or 13.

In total, Valencia Basket and Panathinaikos have faced each other 14 times in the Euroleague, with a favorable balance for the Valencians (8-6) after winning both games this season: at the Telekom Center Athens in the first round (79-89) and less than two weeks ago, in the second round, at the Roig Arena (102-84).
