Arnon Bar-David promised to resign if an indictment is filed

This statement came after it became known about the initiative of the Likud faction in the Histadrut to amend the organization’s charter, which would allow Bar-David, elected for a second term in 2022, to continue to hold office and even run for an additional term, despite the indictment.

According to the initiative, the powers of the chairman of the Histadrut would cease only after the court’s conviction came into force.

According to Bar-David, he has nothing to do with the proposal submitted to the Assembly of Representatives of the Histadrut, and if he is indicted, he will resign “and begin to fight for his good name.”

Let us recall that in November 2025, the police detained Bar-David and insurance agent Ezra Gabay, who is close to Likud, as well as the wife of the chairman of the Histadrut, Ila Kanister Bar-David, and a number of leaders of the organization.

The ongoing police investigation, which has already collected hundreds of statements, centers on suspicions that, as part of a quid pro quo scheme, Histadrut executives facilitated the transfer of workers to Gabay’s insurance agency in exchange for various benefits and Gabay’s influence in the appointment of directors from workers’ committees.

In March, Bar-David returned to his duties in the Histadrut building, but with a number of restrictions. He is prohibited from contacting those involved in the case and dealing with insurance issues.
