Rocchi and the meeting on the Inter referees: “It’s clear who was at San Siro”

On the evening of 2 April 2025, while the first leg of the Italian Cup semi-final between Milan and Inter (which ended in a draw) was being staged at San Siro, the alleged “summit” took place which, according to those investigating, involved Rocchi and other whistleblowers. There remain five suspects – in addition to Rocchi, the Var supervisor Andrea Gervasoni and the assistants Luigi Nasca and Rodolfo Di Vuolo; Daniele Paterna is accused of perjury -, just as the case which takes shape in October 2024 focuses on five matches. According to the accusatory hypothesis, the referee Rocchi (self-suspended) would have acted “in competition with several people” at the Meazza to “combine” or “shield” the nomination of the referee Daniele Doveri for the semi-final second leg of the Italian Cup on 23 April. The objective, according to the investigators, would have been to avoid Inter having an ‘unwelcome’ match referee, so as to have more favorable combinations in matches of greater interest, both in the Italian Cup and in the championship. On 5 April, a few days after the ‘suspicious’ match, Doveri was appointed for Parma-Inter in the championship, while for Bologna-Inter on 20 April the choice fell on Andrea Colombo, considered ‘welcoming’ to the Nerazzurri.

The investigation also focuses on the alleged ‘knocking’ in the Var room. And audio and video recorded from the Lissone room have already ended up in the investigation folder. The Prosecutor’s Office seems intent on playing cards face down, at least until Thursday 30 April when – in the Guardia di Finanza barracks in via Oglio – Rocchi and Gervasoni are invited to appear, the latter having to answer for what happened on 8 March 2025 in a Serie B match, i.e. Salernitana-Modena. From what we understand, Rocchi decided not to appear, while Gervasoni could answer the public prosecutor’s questions.
